'Artbound': Alumna Camille Rose Garcia’s Psychedelic World

"Three women — a wizened witch, a sleek, pipe-smoking femme fatale and a bare-chested school girl sporting a mini-skirt and a sword — shimmy up the hairy shank of a monstrous wolf. It’s not just the beast that’s foreboding; part of his massive torso has been replaced by a melty mountain range with a gaping chasm at its center.  

Alumnus Kio Griffith Featured on Artbound

A work by Kio Griffith ('86 Communications Arts) that was recently shown at the Durden and Ray Gallery in Downtown Los Angeles and the Coachella Valley Art Center and currently appears at the Torrance Art Museum in the exhibition "Doppelgänger" (April 2 to May 28, 2016) exemplifies the visual and sound artist’s cross-cultural, mixed media and multi-faceted approach to art. The work "Red Wheelbarrow," constructed from materials including Bakelite, photographic prints, a stainless steel strainer, is an assemblage tribute to William Carlos Williams’ 1962 modernist poem of the same name:

Alumnus Noe Gaytan and Faculty Andrea Bowers featured in Artbound's Art and Protest

Graduate Public Practice faculty member Andrea Bowers and alumnus Noe Gaytan ('15 MFA) are featured in the Artbound episode 'Art and Protest'. The episode, "explores art created amid social upheaval, including: the social practice of Andrea Bowers and Noe Gaytan, whose work engages with the struggle for wage equity and unionization".

Last spring, Otis College of Art and Design partnered with KCET and its award-winning Artbound series to provide deeper engagement with the Otis Report on the Creative Economy through online articles and short video segments.

Over the past few months, the Los Angeles River has been a political issue. It has been the center of debates about social equality, health, and fiscal feasibility. The Los Angeles River has been so buried in these laden terms that it's easy to forget this waterway is first and foremost a place where real people gather, where they seek shelter legally or illegally, where residents come to simply commune with others.
