Otis Alumni and Faculty Create Publishing Project to Highlight Underrepresented Voices

Becoming a good literary citizen in the world can take all different paths. For two recent Otis College of Art and Design graduates, that path meant partnering with a faculty mentor to create a broadside publication that will publish poetry every other month. Otis College of Art and Design MFA Writing faculty member Guy Bennett and MFA Writing alumni Krystle Statler and Kevin Thomas published the first issue of their broadside, every other, in February 2018, with an original and previously unpublished poem entitled “Icarus” by Nick Flynn.

November is Open Reading Period at Otis Books

Otis Books is accepting unsolicited manuscripts during the month of November 2017. The press publishes works of contemporary fiction, non-fiction, and poetry, with a special interest in translations and writings from and about Los Angeles.

February is Open Reading Period at Otis Books

Otis Books publishes books of contemporary fiction, non-fiction, and poetry, with a special interest in translations and writings from and about Los Angeles. To date Otis Books has published over 40 titles, most recently Beginnings by Alan Loney, The Wilderness After Which by L.S. Klatt, and Caesura: Essays by Gary McDowell.

New Novel by Graduate Writing Faculty Marisa Silver Published by Penguin Random House

Marisa Silver, Senior Lecturer in the Graduate Writing program, will have her fifth novel Little Nothing published in September by Penguin Random House.

Alumna Jessica M. Wilson

Alumna Jessica M. Wilson (’07 MFA Writing) is a writer, poet, and founder of the Los Angeles Poet Society, an organization that bridges the arts with local communities. Her new book, Serious Longing, is the first English language book of poetry for Swan World, an imprint of Editions du Cygne in Paris, France.

Otis at the LA Art Book Fair

Art & Publication, a course taught by Fine Arts faculty Holly Tempo, will be exhibiting at the 2015 Los Angeles Art Book Fair this weekend (January 30 through February 1).  The display will be Table #S07 in the zine section. A number of books by students and alumni from the undergraduate and graduate Graphic Design Departments at Otis, chaired by Kali Nikitas, will be available as well.
