Fashionista: Fashion School Diaries, an Otis Student Bends the Rules a Bit For Her Final Project

Fashion school students around the world are preparing to enter an industry that's rapidly changing. There are courses to pass, design prompts to ace, runway shows to prep for and professional connections to make. In our series, "Fashion School Diaries," those students give us a firsthand look into their day-to-day lives. Here, we meet Jinny Song, an Otis College of Art and Design class of 2018 fashion student, ahead of her student show.

Otis College Celebrates 36th Annual Scholarship Benefit and Fashion Show for the First Time at its West Los Angeles Campus

Otis College of Art and Design staged its Annual Benefit and Fashion Show on campus for the first time on May 5, 2018, inviting Special Guest Jason Wu to a sold-out fashion show followed by an exclusive scholarship dinner at its newly-expanded Elaine and Bram Goldsmith campus in the Westchester neighborhood of Los Angeles. Benefit Chair Shelley Reid and Otis College President Bruce Ferguson welcomed guests to the Fashion Show, noting the show falls on the eve of Otis College’s Centennial Year that begins in the 2018 to 2019 academic year.

Bringing Nature Inspired Designs to the Runway

“Everything that I dreamed of has happened,” says Sacramento native Joanna Rubalcaba (BFA Fashion Design ‘17), who was named Designer of the Year by the Fashion Design department at Otis College. “I was so honored and excited to get it,” she says, “because it meant that my teachers had noticed how hard I worked throughout the year.”
