Lindsay August-Salazar's multifaceted artistic practice, informed by a conviction in the power of language to invoke political, psychological, and philosophical change and growth, is articulated through the creation of August-Salazar’s choreographic language, the Abstract Character Copies. This lexicon builds upon multiple artistic disciplines including glyphic mark making, abstraction, postmodern dance, and typography, while distinctly envisioning a unique, personal form of expression and conceptual exploration of utopian ideas. August-Salazar’s works have been exhibited widely. Her most recent project was performed at The Box, Los Angeles as part of the Pieter Project Space residency. Salazar, a Medici Scholar, is the recipient of many grants and awards including the Rema Hort Mann Foundation Emerging Artist Grant and the Joan Mitchell Foundation Award. Her works have been discussed in publications including The New York Times, Art in America, E-Flux and Modern Painters.
