He co-runs Happening Studio with his wife Karen. His studio mantra is to find an intersection between various binaries such as print and digital, learning and teaching, commercial and nonprofit clients. This interdisciplinary approach is exactly why he is fluent in both design and web development, as he still sees a disconnect between the two fields. He has taught and led workshops on typography and web coding at CalArts, Otis College of Art and Design & Temple University Japan. His work has been recognized by LACMA, Museum of Contemporary Arts Chicago, J Paul Getty, Idea Magazine, It’s Nice That, Fast Code. Masato comes from Japan by way of Switzerland.
