Section Faculty

Miguel Navarro

I am equally an artist and an educator.

As an artist, I create three dimensional objects, installations, and videos that often include the process of dismantling and reconstructing as a way of exploring various aspects of cognition. I have exhibited nationally, have artworks in private collections, and most recently was the Artist in Residence for the U.S. National Park Service at Joshua Tree.

As an educator, I am a National Board Certified Teacher and I pride myself in working with students to help facilitate the development of an independent and meaningful artistic process. I utilize the elements of art and the principles of design as fundamentals in developing a visual vocabulary for articulating what you see and what you create.

Dylan Richards

I am an interdisciplinary artist working primarily in the fields of sculpture, sound, and performance. I am endlessly fascinated with the materiality of our post-natural world, peering between binaries where complexity occurs and the possibilities of wisdom in art are revealed. I deploy a wide range of making strategies in my practice. It’s not uncommon to find highly fabricated 3D printed forms alongside ceramic objects and ready-mades found washed up on the beach in my installations. In my class I encourage this multifaceted approach, where I will work with you to develop technical strategies and conceptual approaches for your projects. I look forward to exploring the magic within your artistic endeavors, pushing boundaries and discovering new possibilities!

Rachel Roske

My works on unprimed canvas are located somewhere between drawing and painting in terms of process. I render shapes of light and shadow on a canvas that functions as an object in addition to the traditional “window” of the picture plane. This object is a place for something to happen, like Rauschenberg’s white paintings or the cave of Plato’s allegory.

In my classes, I teach drawing as a common denominator among all forms of visual culture. Whether design, architecture, painting or sculpture, for example, drawing is the most immediate way to visualize your ideas. I also focus on perception as the basis of the drawing process, since learning to draw requires learning to see in a new way. At any level, drawing can be a profound experience that confirms our humanity, expresses the subjective nature of existence, and changes the way we see the world.
