Bio and Affiliation

Fridolin “Frido” Beisert is a product designer by training and a creative by choice. Originally from Hamburg, Germany, he is the partner and creative director at Baum-kuchen Studio, a Los Angeles-based design and lifestyle brand co-founded and operated with his wife, Wakako. At Baum-kuchen, he leads the design and manufacturing of new products as well as the development of the brand experience.

Drawing on his experience as a designer and creative practitioner, Frido has developed strategies for understanding, communicating, and teaching the creative process. He is the author of Creative Strategies, a book exploring the creative process through 3D design, and is a frequent guest professor at INSEAD Business School in Singapore. He has also led executive workshops around the world focused on creativity and innovation. At Otis, he brings this broad experience into the Product Design studio, encouraging students to approach design as both a creative practice and a way of thinking.

Prior to Baum-kuchen, Frido worked in Tokyo developing futuristic video games, founded a boutique design consultancy from his garage, toured internationally as an underground DJ, and studied traditional papermaking with a master craftsman in Japan. His varied experience reflects his belief that creativity can be developed through curiosity, experimentation, making, and an openness to learning from unexpected places.
