Bio/Affiliation:

Over 25 years of providing real design solutions across industries in industrial design and 16 years teaching new generations of designers have enabled Mark to have a holistic vision of design that has influenced his work.  He characterizes his approach to design as "Innovation with The Art of Empathy."  Great designers are curious, and first and foremost, they observe, take notice and make notes of things others overlook.  Much of Mark's work exhibits his love of those special moments when he finds solutions that replace poor design or a design idea that fills a vacancy that enables and inspires.  Recently, redesigned the traditional electric guitar by observing the conflicting motion paths that guitarists have struggled with due to the knobs and switch setup.  His answer was to eliminate these barriers and replace them with 'touch panels,' thereby providing ease of play and enriching the opportunity to create even more audio effects.  His design teaching challenges new designers to rely on their curiosity, intuition, and powers of observation to break the cycle of design traditions to find new innovative solutions. He is the founder of Zoomout Design, a design consultancy.
