Riah Buchanan is an educator and graphic designer who teaches BFA and MFA graphic design students in studio and theory classes, including the new class Making with AI Generators. She brings experience in time-based media, branding and visual identity to the department. She holds an MFA in 2D Design from Cranbrook Academy of Art and a BFA in Psychology from Carleton College and is pursuing a PhD from the Center of Digital Art and Experimental Media at the University of Washington. 

She focuses on public sector and nonprofit work in her design practice, including at the National Park Service, American Civil Liberties Union, U.S. Patent and Trademark Office, and the Los Angeles County Metropolitan Transportation Authority and for clients such as the Natural Resources Defense Council, New York Times, Santa Monica Bay Restoration Foundation and the US Forest Service. She is on the editorial board of Media-N: Journal of the New Media Caucus. She publishes a seasonal journal, Desert Times from her home in the desert.
