New Otis College Extension Programs Help Creative Professionals Stay Ahead in Changing Industries
The new programs are skills-focused and accelerated to allow students to immediately apply what they learn.

For career creatives, being able to evolve with technology has become increasingly important for staying relevant and employable. And because the pace of technological change is faster than ever, artists and designers are looking for opportunities to build new skills without stepping away from work or committing to a multi-year degree program.
To respond to these emerging needs, Otis Extension is offering two new accelerated certificate programs—AI for Creative Professionals and Digital Design Tools for Fashion—and launching a redesigned Interior Design Certificate curriculum to better reflect today’s creative practices, technologies, and career pathways.
“These new programs provide focused, career-relevant education in a flexible format, and they are taught by working artists and designers,” says Otis Extension Executive Director Terry Nauheim. “This combination of industry expertise with practical, project-based work means students will be able to immediately apply what they’re learning.”
Work with AI Without Losing Your Creative Voice
Artificial intelligence is becoming an inevitable part of the creative process, yet the most valuable skill isn’t simply knowing how to use AI—it’s knowing how to direct it with intention. The new AI for Creative Professionals certificate connects emerging technology with the realities of today’s creative fields, helping students build confidence using AI as another tool in their kit.
The certificate is composed of two fully online courses that can be completed in approximately eight months. In Creative Direction for AI, students learn prompting strategies and how to critically evaluate AI-generated content. In AI Tools for Creative Production, they explore how AI tools can support ideation, visual exploration, creative direction, and production workflows while remaining grounded in originality, authorship, and ethical practice.
The program is for students with varying levels of experience with AI, particularly those who have experimented with AI tools but could not get consistent results. Students move beyond experimentation, whether as art directors, graphic designers, marketers, brand strategists, or freelance creatives. The practical skills they gain will strengthen—not replace—their creative process.
Learn Digital Skills for Today’s Fashion Industry
Digital tools are used in the fashion industry to communicate ideas, streamline production, and bring concepts to life. The Digital Design Tools for Fashion certificate prepares students to work confidently within these evolving workflows by focusing its three courses on the essential programs to know today: Adobe Illustrator, Adobe Photoshop, and Procreate.
Throughout this program, which can be completed in approximately eight months, students learn to create technical flats, digital illustrations, mood boards, textile designs, and presentation-ready concepts, while developing efficient workflows from sketch to final presentation.
Designed for both experienced professionals looking to upskill and recent graduates entering the workforce, the program emphasizes not only technical proficiency but also visual communication and design vocabulary. Students will enhance their portfolio work with sketches and illustrations demonstrating their understanding of technical design processes.
Build Your Portfolio with Updated Interior Design Program
Created for beginners, career changers, and working professionals, the new, streamlined Interior Design Certificate Program guides students through every phase of the design process. They gain experience with industry-standard software, including AutoCAD, SketchUp, and Building Information Modeling (BIM), while developing a professional portfolio that showcases both residential and commercial design work.
Through a project-based curriculum, students move from research and concept development to technical drawing and final presentation. The program’s 10-courses—online and hybrid—can be completed in approximately 16 months, and combine such fundamentals as color theory and the history of furniture design with electives in sustainable practices and AI software.
As with all Otis Extension certificate programs, students receive career support, including counseling, career assessment, internship and job search assistance, and employer networking opportunities.
Continuing a Tradition of Creative Learning
Each of Otis Extension’s new and updated certificate programs is intentionally designed around a clearly defined set of professional competencies, allowing students to gain focused expertise. The programs are shorter because they’re purpose-built for professionals who need targeted, applicable skills, and reflect a simple idea: learning doesn’t end with a degree. As creative industries continue to evolve, so should the opportunities to grow within them.
