Apply to Creative Trades Lab
Creative Trades Lab is a paid, three-week summer program at Otis College of Art and Design for high school students interested in exploring the intersection of creativity, design, and skilled trades. Through hands-on learning in woodworking, metal fabrication, and design thinking, participants work alongside Otis instructors and industry mentors to design and build outdoor furniture for the TGR Learning Lab on the Lulu’s Place campus in Westchester. If you’re curious about building, making and creative problem-solving, this program is a great fit for you.

To Be Eligible, Applicants Must:
- Be entering grades 10–12 in Fall 2026
- Attend high school within Los Angeles County
- Demonstrate an interest in creativity, arts, or skilled trades
- Be available to attend the full three-week program at Otis College’s Westchester campus. The program runs from July 13–31, 2026. Classes meet Monday through Friday from 9:00 am to 3:00 pm.
No previous experience in design, fabrication, or skilled trades is required.
Application Requirements
The online application includes several brief questions to help us learn more about you and your interests. Applicants are asked to respond to questions such as:
- What interests you about the Creative Trades Lab, and what do you hope to learn during this three-week program?
- This program requires full participation for three weeks. How will you ensure your attendance and stay engaged?
- How do you see skills in the trades supporting your future goals?
Program Expectations
Creative Trades Lab is an intensive program that requires full participation. Students who are accepted are expected to:
- Attend daily classes and program activities
- Participate in team collaboration and design work
- Complete assignments and project work on schedule
- Attend field trips, guest lectures and program events
- Due to the fast-paced nature of the program, students may not miss more than one unexcused class session.
