General Curricular Information

Students

Liberal Arts and Sciences provides students with a diverse and intellectually stimulating environment that cultivates critical tools, enabling students to become informed artists and designers who are prepared to meet global challenges. 

Liberal Arts Courses Are Scheduled According to Level:

  • Sophomores: Monday Afternoons (3:15 pm - 6:00 pm) + All Day Tuesdays
  • Juniors: Friday Mornings (8:15 am - 11:00 am) + All Day Wednesdays
  • Seniors: All Day Thursdays

Distribution Requirements

Liberal Arts and Sciences courses make up one third the credits required for graduation with a bachelor of Fine Arts degree. These three credit courses are distributed among the following: Art History, English, Liberal Studies, Social Sciences, Mathematics and Natural Sciences depending on the studio major.

Categories of Courses

Students in all majors are required to fulfill Art History, English, and Liberal Studies courses listed below in their first year. (Based on the Writing Placement Test, students may be required to take the following prerequisites: ENGL020, ENGL050, or ENGL 090.)

Grading/Credit Breakdown

Your faculty member will provide a rubric for your class and review how the rubric defines their expectations for student work. If at any time you are confused about the grading criteria for your class, request an appointment with your faculty member so that you understand how your work will be evaluated.
