Circus Disco opened in Los Angeles, California, in 1974 and soon became known as the longest-running LGBTQ+ Latinx nightclub. The nightclub was demolished in 2016. A self-initiated project to illustrate how beautiful yet fragile these spaces can be and how easily they can be taken away. To illustrate this, I created three installation pieces. Transparent colored plexiglass sheets were cut into interlocking shapes that reference the visual language of the original nightclub. The installations act to replicate the dynamic and interconnected atmosphere act of being within queer nightclubs such as Circus Disco. Some images may be cropped. An over 290-pg spiral-bound book with a fluorescent pink plexiglass cover. This publication becomes a visual exploration of what it means to be a Club Kid of the 90s using digital and analog techniques. The idea of a 24-hour clock as page numbers is utilized to represent the day in life as a Club Kid. There is also a running footer with an ongoing playlist changing songs per page as a nod to music in the nightclubs.
