Elijah Moul
This chair design was inspired by the contrast between hard and soft, specifically the sensation of impact from taking a fall skateboarding versus snowboarding. I was also drawn to ancient marble sculptures that appear soft despite being carved from stone. This led me to imagine a block with a human imprint, like a snow angel in fresh snow. Crafted entirely from discarded wood scraps collected from shops around South Los Angeles, each layer tells its own story. These included hardwoods, MDF, and plywood, which I laminated into a sculptural form that reflects both chaos and control, material waste and reuse. Some images may be cropped. Elijah Moul
BFA Product Design
I transform materials, ideas, and experiences into functional design. Rooted in LA’s
outdoor culture, I draw inspiration from skateboarding, sports, and music. At Otis
College, I focused on sustainability, turning scrap and found objects into lighting,
furniture, and home goods. I push materials beyond expected uses through hands-on
exploration, driven by a passion for reuse, form, and function.
