This here is Aster! She's the main character of a story I plan to turn into an animated series down the line, and she's also the character I've had the longest--nearly six years now! A socially challenged teen with a knack for breaking the rules, her personal drive makes her a force of nature the world never saw coming... Despite her cartoonish appearance, she exhibits some very deep and genuine emotions that are pulled from personal experiences! From that, I consider her to be a sort of mascot for my work and what I value as an animator. Also, I just think she's nifty! Some images may be cropped. Some sketches of Aster and Bud (the green one)! In their story, these two are... pals? Found siblings? Codependent frenemies? It's a little hard to say! I represented this weird little relationship through their posing and the lighting environments. From the contrast of light and cold shadow with their neutral expressions, their companionship is evident and yet slightly off, and it's tricky to tell exactly what they are to one another!

A character sheet of 2 pals, Angel (bird) and Fishkid (fish, of course)! Angel is a short-fused fallen angel, expelled from heaven for being too chock-full of teenage angst and eager to take out her unbridled anger on the mortal world! Fishkid is a fish kid, watch out. This unlikely duo was conceptualized as a pitch for a short film to be made during a course at Otis! Unfortunately, the full storyboard ended up being a bit too ambitious, though I'm far from done with these two as I still plan to polish up the boards and put a film/series together myself! Their crime-duo sibling relationship has stolen my heart (and my wallet).

An impossibly dark sea... and lurking within, the distorted forms of a mother and calf who may have once been whales. At the surface, a lone bat-like fisherman watches them, curiosity piqued at the border of the abyss... spooky! At a glance it might not seem like it, but I absolutely adore horror and am always looking for ways to weasel it into my personal work! The contrast of bright cartoons to vast cosmic terrors is something oh so tantalizing to me, and this illustration is a peek into a much larger world that encapsulates that through some very, very stretched marine biology.

A little sheet of another character from Aster's world, Dare! The nickname was lovingly given to him by Aster, though in reality he's anything but daring. An anxiety-ridden college dropout struggling to get his life together, he's retreated to a life of working the counter at his dad's arcade and fixating on his love of squishy cartoon aliens. I originally made Dare for a short film back in 2022 to be a direct foil to Aster, and since then, both of their personalities have changed tenfold! Aster used to be bursting at the seams with playful energy, with Dare being a jaded retail worker wholly exhausted by her nonsense... Somewhere along the line, I decided they'd be roommates, and their dynamic took a 180; Aster became more of a chill-yet-teasing type that occasionally gets overwhelmed by Dare, who tends to be awkwardly social!

A model sheet for JJ and Percy, two characters I've had for a long while! JJ is a young pumpkin boy descended from a long line of powerful and infamous gourds, though he goes about life with a love unbefitting of his heritage. Percy is a creature of the woods, and like JJ he is haunted by his bloodline as the townsfolk wish to hunt him as the offspring of a monster. The two find comfort in their shared experiences, making them inseparable against all odds as they set out on their own adventures! This model sheet was made in preparation to animate what's now the second clip on my reel! To get them up-to-date, I focused on giving them volume and changing forms to be more visually interesting (JJ's head used to just be a circle), as well as "aging them down" by softening their edges and making them a tad bit shorter! Also, Percy got a sweet little ribbon bowtie which was 100% necessary.

(Characters and concept belong to Dani Pagan) Aria and Jake are characters I redesigned and animated for short film called Joyride, directed and co-produced by Dani Pagan! We wanted to branch out into different styles for the design explorations, and so I went all-in on the cartoony look with graphic forms, warm colors, and pie-eyes to tie it off! I knew that Aria and Jake had distinct personalities going in complete opposite directions, so I put a big emphasis on contrasting shape language with Aria being angular and built with primarily triangles to represent her rambunctious and spirited nature, while Jake's softer demeanor showed through his rectangular shapes and round edges. They make quite the pair!Kit Brosnan
My animation reel compiling the main projects I've worked on! There’s plenty more to come, so keep an eye out…

Two video game characters hash it out! Though it doesn't seem to be a fair fight... A short made with a mix of stopmotion and digital animation! Music composed by me, with all character animation (unless evidently digital) hand drawn, frame-by-frame on paper cutouts!

Heya, my name is Kit Brosnan! I'm a 2D animator and character designer based in Los
Angeles, CA, with a passion for hand-drawn character animation. I've always adored
the little lives of animated characters, no matter how simplistic or cartoony the
design is — it's my pleasure to put care into every frame to help tell their stories!
I've been working as a freelance animator for a handful of indie works ranging from
shorts to animated pilots, and I'm always itching to hop onto the next project!
