Tami Demaree

Born in Huntington Beach, CA in 1978, Demaree now works and resides in the area. Demaree graduated from Otis College of Art and Design with her MFA in 2003 and earned her BFA from The University of California in 2000. In one of her most recent shows, Pictures of a Floating World, at ODD●ARK LA, she presented work that was a synthesis of her Japanese/Hawaiian heritage in both imagery and process. She returned to a traditional process of hand-carving woodblocks in reference to “Ukiyo-e,” a traditional Japanese woodblock printing process. These grand woodcarvings echo traditions of Japanese and Hawaiian culture while also commenting on the gaze of Orientalism. Her work has been presented extensively in the U.S. and internationally, including Paris, Berlin, Vienna, Budapest, and Israel. Solo exhibitions include Las Cienegas Projects, Rosamund Felsen Gallery, University of San Diego, Meliksetian Briggs, and LACMA.
