Hard Goods Studio

The Packaging Design curriculum in the Product Design major involves both the physical package and the packaging graphics.  In the area of physical packaging, sudents learn a wide range of skills and processes related to the design and development of containers that hold and protect the product with materials that include; paperboard, wood, metal, glass, fabric and more.  In packaging graphics students learn how to apply color, typography, and imagery as a means to communicate, pursuade, sell products in a complelling way to consumers. 

Decorative lighting is one of the project areas of consumer products related to home and office interior and exterior illumination that students learn.  Often described as the jewelry for the home, decorative lighting covers a wide range of fixtures combining lighting effects and technology.  Studio projects challenge the student to create decorative fixtures that may range from sconces, floor lamps, pendants, ceiling lights to contemporary installations.  Materials vary from woods, metals, glass, ceramic, plastics, and more.
