Foundation students will be enrolled in two Liberal Arts and Science classes in fall semester. These classes will be scheduled around selected studio classes.

Jeremy Jirsa

I was born in Baltimore, Maryland, and graduated of the Maryland Institute College of Art (MICA), receiving a Bachelor of Fine Arts in General Fine Arts and a minor in Art History with the honors of Magna Cum Laude in 2014 and a Master of Arts in Teaching from MICA in 2015. In 2017 I received my Master of Fine Arts at The University of Pennsylvania, where I was also the recipient of the Christopher Lyons Memorial Grant Award for the class of 2017. My work has been exhibited across the United States as well as in Florence, Italy. My studio practice encompasses sculpture, painting, photography, performance and installation. My most recent Solo Exhibition took Place at IA & A Hillyer Gallery in Washington DC and was recently been featured in the Washington Post.

Emily Leon

I am a multidisciplinary product designer based out of Los Angeles, CA. I am an alumna of Otis College of Art and Design and completed my Postgraduate studies in Footwear Design at CENTRO in Mexico City. I have experience designing products ranging from footwear, apparel and accessories for surf/skate, moto and outdoors lifestyle, putting forth sustainability efforts and processes in all aspects of my work. I am first-generation Mexican-American, and my personal art practice consists of textile based work, handmade biomaterials and bioplastics often exploring the theme of duality, celebrating but also breaking traditions as I pull inspiration from my upbringing in the central coast of California, and Mexico City, Mexico.

Scott Zaragoza

I am a photo-realist painter who specializes in both drawing and painting. Over the years I have explored various types of wet and dry media including oil, acrylic, gouache, gold leaf, charcoal, color pencil, and oil pastel. My work has been exhibited nationally and internationally with shows in the U.K. and Los Angeles. I’ve been featured in publications such as Flaunt Magazine, Juxtapoz and recently in the LA Weekly and LA Times. As an artist I’m drawn to create the likeness of form. Whether it’s animals, people or objects my goal has been to understand the nature of seeing both objectively and subjectively. I bring this approach into the classroom where I engage students with critical thinking and technique. I have learned the most about art making through exploring materials and I encourage students to investigate and to push the limits by thinking traditionally and non-traditionally about materials. This helps students to create a new way of seeing and in turn broadens their visual vocabulary.
