Notes:

Foundation students will be enrolled in two Liberal Arts and Science classes in fall semester. These classes will be scheduled around selected studio classes.

Roni Feldman

I’m a painter working primarily in oil, acrylic, and airbrush. Most people know me for my figurative work and use of iridescent and luminous materials, but I am constantly exploring and experimenting with new techniques. My paintings have been exhibited at museums, biennials, and galleries throughout the U.S. and abroad. I’m also a writer, having recently penned The Creator’s Eye, a series of sci-fi/ fantasy novels. In my spare time I travel, camp, and hike. I’m a big nature lover and that is reflected in my latest paintings of landscapes and famous explorers. Most recently, I backpacked across the Andes to Machu Picchu. My travels often involve research for my paintings and they help me bring a diverse knowledge of art, culture, and history to my classroom. I teach Principles of Design, Connections through Color & Design, and periodically instruct the Foundation Painting Elective.

Cara Levine

I am an artist who works in sculpture, video, and socially engaged practices, to explore the intersections of the physical, metaphysical, traumatic, and illusionary. I am also the founder of This Is Not A Gun, a multidisciplinary project aiming to create awareness and activism through collective creative action. My work has been presented in one-person, group exhibitions, and participatory events in venues around the world such as the Contemporary Jewish Museum in San Francisco, MOCA Geffen Warehouse, Creative Time, and The Anchorage Museum. I teach in Fine Art and the Foundation department and have worked in the disability arts community since 2011 at studios in Los Angeles and Oakland, CA.

Mayuka Nagasawa

I am a creative edutainer and dabble in many different art forms. All of them are co-dependent of each other or extension of. My background is in television as a bilingual actor, theatre, voice actor, and vocalist, but art, as in drawing and painting, has been my natural talent, and teaching has been my calling. I create works of art from painting large-scale to music videos that deliver the message in hopes that my narratives evoke an emotional urgency for change in viewing and listening audiences. My background in teaching abroad at International Schools with diverse student bodies has given me the sensitivity to understand the different ways students learn, and as a result, I try my very best to meet students from their perspective. I teach ages 5 yrs to adults on a regular basis, and this has enabled me to understand the way students of all ages learn. I encourage students in my classes to learn how to see, and the application of what they see through practice and various forms of assignments. My hope is for my students to understand that the techniques they learn in class will translate to all other art disciplines that they will study in art school and beyond. The practice of drawing is fundamental to understanding the beauty of all shapes and forms that we see in life.
